BHUBANESWAR: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad on monday demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his Government’s failure to give protection to Swami Lakshmanananda Saraswati.
Terming the BJD-BJP Government as spineless, VHP international general secretary Praveen Togadia told mediapersons here that the former is solely responsible for the killing of the swami who was under constant threat from the dalit Christians.
To a specific question, the VHP leader said he is not demanding resignation of the Chief Minister, but public apology by him.
Togadia who arrived here today proceeded straight to Chakapada to attend last rites of the slain swami. He also hit out at State Police for misleading the people by claiming that the killing was the handiwork of the Left wing ultras.
"The DGP has lied and misled the people to cover up the police failure," Togadia said and sought to know from the police chief how he knew about the involvement of Naxalites in the killing within 30 minutes of the incident.
Although the Seer was attacked six months ago, the police failed to protect him. The State Police are unable to perform their duty with responsibility, he added.
Holding the church responsible for the Seer’s death, the firebrand VHP leader said this is a direct attack on the Hindu Samaj and for the first time a Hindu saint was killed.

भुवनेश्वर। विश्व हिन्दू परिषद (विहिप) के अंतरराष्ट्रीय सचिव प्रवीण तोगडि़या ने विहिप नेता स्वामी लक्ष्मणानंद सरस्वती की हत्या के लिए उड़ीसा के मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक को जिम्मेदार ठहराया है। तोगडिया के अनुसार "इस पूरे मामले में मुख्यमंत्री जिम्मेदार हैं और इसके लिए उन्हें सार्वजनिक तौर पर माफी मांगनी चाहिए।"
तोगडिया ने कहा कि "उड़ीसा में चर्चो गतिविधियों पर प्रतिबंध लगाया जाना चाहिए।" उन्होंने स्वामी लक्ष्मणानंद की हत्या को "अत्यंत बर्बरता पूर्ण" काम करार देते हुए कहा कि इस मामले में क्रिश्चियन समुदाय के पांच लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। उन्होंने बताया कि इनकी पहचान विलियम दिगल, विक्रम दिगल, विजया पर्छा, राजू परिछा और प्रदोष के रूप में की गई है।
तोगडिया ने स्वामी जी की हत्या मामले में राज्य सरकार पर आरोप लगाते हुए कहा कि लक्ष्मणानंद सरस्वती जी की हत्या शाम को लगभग 7 बजे की गई और हत्या के केवल आधे घंटे के अंदर ही डीजीपी ने इसे नक्सली हमला करार दे दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि प्रशासन के इस रवैये से साफ जाहिर होता है कि पुलिस जनता को गुमराह करने की कोशिश कर रही है।
उन्होंने दो टूक शब्दों में कहा कि "सरकार इस मामले में जिम्मेदारी लेअथवा नहीं ले पर सच यही है कि मुख्यमंत्री नवीन पटनायक स्वामी जी की हत्या के लिए जिम्मेदार हैं।" तोगडिया ने कहा कि मुख्यमंत्री एक ऎसे संत के जीवन की रक्षा करने में असफल रहे हैं, जिन्होंने हिन्दू धर्म की रक्षा और कल्याण के लिए अपने जीवन के चार दशक समर्पित कर दिए।
विहिप के सचिव तोगडिया ने कहा कि स्वामी जी ने अपनी जान का खतरा बताते हुए एफआईआर भी दायर करवाई थी लेकिन इसके बावजूद मुख्यमंत्री और डीजीपी उनकी रक्षा नहीं कर पाए। उन्होंने आरोप लगाते हुए कहा कि केवल न्यायिक जांच के आदेश दे देने की कागजी कार्रवाईकर देने भर से मामला शांत नहीं होगा। सरकार यदि राज्य में शांति चाहती है तो उसे चर्च की गतिविधियों पर रोक लगानी ही होगी।
