इंडियन प्रीमियर लीग के आयोजकों का कहना है कि अगले वर्ष ये प्रतियोगिता अपने निर्धारित समय से एक महीना पहले आयोजित की जाएगी। आईपीएल के चेयरमैन ललित मोदी ने बताया कि वर्ष 2010 की प्रतियोगिता मार्च और अप्रैल में होगी।

इस वर्ष की आईपीएल प्रतियोगिता शनिवार 18 अप्रैल को शुरू हो रही है और फ़ाइनल 24 मई को खेला जाएगा। पहले ये प्रतियोगिता भारत में होनी थी लेकिन वहाँ आम चुनाव के कारण सुरक्षा व्यवस्था का प्रश्न खड़ा हो गया जिसके बाद प्रतियोगिता को दक्षिण अफ़्रीका में आयोजित किया जा रहा है।

ऐसी संभावना है कि अगले वर्ष की आईपीएल प्रतियोगिता भारतीय टीम के दक्षिण अफ़्रीका दौरे से लौटने के तुरंत बाद आयोजित की जाएगी। आईपीएल का कार्यक्रम पहले करने से एक लाभ ये भी होगा कि ट्वेंटी-ट्वेंटी विश्व कप प्रतियोगिता के साथ आईपीएल का कोई टकराव नहीं होगा। अगले साल ट्वेंटी-ट्वेंटी विश्व कप प्रतियोगिता वेस्टइंडीज़ में अप्रैल और मई महीने में खेली जानी है।

मुंबई की विशेष अदालत ने मुंबई हमलों के आरोपी आमिर अजमल क़साब की अर्ज़ी ख़ारिज़ कर दी है। क़साब ने मांग की थी कि उस पर मुक़दमा बाल अदालत में चलाया जाए।

मुंबई हमलों के मुक़दमे की सुनावाई कर रही विशेष अदालत ने क़साब की बाल अदालत में मुक़दमा चलाने की अर्ज़ी ख़ारिज़ कर दी है। क़साब की अर्ज़ी ख़ारिज़ करते हुए अदालत ने कहा कि आरोपी की उम्र 17 साल लगती ही नहीं हैं।

क़साब के वकील अब्बास काज़मी ने अदालत से मांग की थी कि क़साब के ख़िलाफ़ मुक़दमा बाल अदालत में चलाया जाए। अब्बास ने अदालत के सामने बताया कि बीते साल हुए मुंबई हमलों के वक्त क़साब की उम्र 17 साल भी नहीं थी।

अदालत में ज़िरह के दौरान अभियोजन पक्ष के वकील उज्जवल निकम ने कहा कि, '' 26 नवंबर 2008 के दिन क़साब की उम्र 21 साल दो महीने और 13 दिन थी।'' उज्जवल निकम ने अदालत को बताया कि क़साब पुलिस को दो बार दिए गए अपने बयान में भी अपनी उम्र 21 साल बता चुका है।

दोनों पक्षों को सुनने के बाद न्यायाधीश एम एल तहलियानी ने कहा कि, '' मेरे विचार से यह अर्ज़ी सिर्फ सुनवाई को और लंबा खींचने के लिए दी गई है।''

इससे पहले शुक्रवार को मुंबई हमलों में एकमात्र जिंदा पकड़े गए आतंकवादी अजमल आमिर क़साब के ख़िलाफ मुंबई की विशेष अदालत में मुक़दमा शुरू हुआ। क़साब के अलावा विशेष अदालत में फ़हीम अंसारी और सबाऊद्दीन अहमद के ख़िलाफ़ मुक़दमा की सुनवाई चल रही है।

क़साब, फ़हीम अंसारी और सबाऊद्दीन अहमद पर 26 नवंबर, 2007 को हुए आतंकी हमलों में 166 लोगों को मारने का आरोप है। क़सब के ख़िलाफ़ भारत के ख़िलाफ़ युद्ध छेड़ने, हत्या करने और हत्या की साजिश रचने के आरोप हैं। क़सब के ख़िलाफ़ मुंबई की पुलिस ने 11,000 पन्नों की चार्जशीट तैयार की है।

सुनवाई के दौरान अभियोजन पक्ष के वकील उज्जवल निकम ने कहा, ''भले ही ताज,, ट्राइडेंट और नरिमन हाउस में फायरिंग के वक्त क़साब वहां मौज़ूद नहीं था लेकिन उसे हर बात की जानकारी थी और इन हत्याओं के लिए रची गई साज़िश में वह भी शामिल था।''

इससे पहले बुधवार को विशेष अदालत ने क़सब की सरकारी वकील अंजलि वाघमारे की नियुक्ति को रद्द कर दिया था। गुरुवार को कोर्ट अब्बास काज़मी को क़साब का वकील नियुक्त किया। अब्बास काज़मी को मुंबई पुलिस ने सुरक्षा मुहैया कराई है।

कट्टरपंथी नेता मौलाना सूफ़ी मोहम्मद ने फ़रवरी को उत्तर पाश्चिमी सीमा से सटे प्रांत की सरकार और स्थानीय तालिबान के बीच शांति समझौता करवाया था। इस समझौते का मकसद प्रांत में शरिया क़ानून लागू करना था ताकि महीनों से चल रही हिंसा को ख़त्म किया जा सके।

इससे पहले पाकिस्तान ने जब पाकिस्तानी संसद के सामने स्वात घाटी में शरिया लागू करने का प्रस्ताव रखा तब उन्होने कहा, "इस प्रस्ताव को समर्थन देकर हम मलाकंड में रह रहे लोगों और वहाँ की सरकार की इच्छा की इज़्ज़त करेंगे।"

जानकारों का मानना है की ज़रदारी खुद अपने दम पर भी इस प्रस्ताव को पारित कर सकते थे लेकिन उन्होने सभी राजनैतिक पार्टियों को शामिल इसलिए भी किया ताकि भविष्य में इस क़ानून से होने वाली दिक्कतों का पूरा ठीकरा उन्हीं के सिर न फूटे।

Asked if residents could go to sharia courts to file complaints against militant leaders for their losses, Mohammad said: "Our aim is to forget the past and move forward."

Bharti Airtel’s revenue reporting on its national long distance licence has now come under the scanner of the Central Vigilance Commission. who alleged that the Government may have lost over Rs 100 crore a year from “anti competitive practice of Bharti in long distance carriage.”

The CVC has asked the Department of Telecom to investigate whether the company had violated norms by showing higher revenues under its long distance licence in a bid to pay lower revenue share to the Government and whether any DoT or TRAI officials were conniving with the company.

Ahmedabad: Former minister of state for women development and child welfare, Maya Kodnani filed for regular bail in the city sessions court in connection with the Naroda Patia massacre case, on Thursday. The move came after she was sent to judicial custody in the case by metropolitan magistrate GM Patel.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT)sought Kodnani on remand on grounds that she was not cooperating with the investigation and that she had not replied properly during questioning. However, the metropolitan court rejected the application on the ground that the agency had cited the same grounds as before, sending her to judicial custody.

In the bail application filed through lawyer said her involvement in the case had been shown long after the incident. She further said in her application that if released on bail, there would be no scope of her tampering with evidence and that, prima facie, no case of murder had been established against her. The sessions court deferred hearing in the matter.

Kasi Viswanathan, secretary of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and Head of Operations of the Super Kings informed minutes before boarding the flight that the team is geared up to return with the trophy this time.The Super Kings would be having a six-day training camp in Durban from April 10-15, which includes a few practice matches against local teams before leaving for Cape Town to play Mumbai Indians in the second match on the opening day of the high-profile Twenty20 tournament. Viswanathan noted that all the eight teams have made some changes in their squads this time around after first edition's experience. "Dhoni will be returning to India along with the team today from New Zealand. Of course, he requires some rest. He, along with Flintoff and others, will join the team in Cape Town.
