अपनी तरह के बिरले नेता जॉर्ज फर्नांडिस बिहार के मुजफ्फरपुर लोकसभा क्षेत्र से निर्दलीय चुनाव लड़ेंगे। जनता दल यूनाइटेड में इन दिनों बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नितीश कुमार पार्टी अध्यक्ष शरद यादव की तूती बोलती है और इन दोनों ने मिलकर जनता दल (यू) के अपने सबसे वरिष्ठ साथी जार्ज को ही टिकट देने से इनकार कर दिया लेकिन जार्ज ने पटना में अपने समर्थकों के साथ विचार विमर्श करके नतीजा निकाला और तय किया कि वे पहली अप्रैल को अपनी सीट मुजफ्फर से निर्दलीय उम्मीदवार के रूप में परचा दाखिल करेंगे।

जनता दल यूनाइटेड के वरिष्‍ठ नेता जॉर्ज फर्नांडिस मुजफ्फरपुर से निर्दलीय चुनाव लड़ेंगे और वह 1 अप्रैल को पर्चा दाखिल करेंगे. पार्टी द्वारा टिकट काटे जाने से नाराज जॉर्ज ने बुधवार को ही नेताओं को आड़े हाथों लिया था।

पार्टी ने जार्ज के स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य को देखते हुए टिकट नहीं देने का फैसला लिया था. बुधवार को अचानक मुजफ्फरपुर पहुंचे जॉर्ज ने एक प्रेस कांफ्रेंस में कहा था कि अभी भी मेरे अंदर इतनी ताकत बची है कि मैं अपने दम पर पार्टी के लोगों को एकसाथ लेकर चल सकता हूं।

English Translation:

Denied a ticket by his party JD(U) for the Lok Sabha elections in Bihar, veteran socialist leader George Fernandes is likely to contest the Muzaffarpur seat as an Independent and file his papers next Wednesday.

According to former Bihar Minister Ganesh Yadav, a Fernandes loyalist and who attended the meeting of his supporters, said, "Fernandes will file his nomination papers from Muzaffarpur parliamentary constituency on April 1."

After Yadav announced that the fiery socialist will be in the fray, the 79-year-old George nodded and waved hands in an apparent sign of giving his assent to contest the polls from Muzaffarpur which sent him to the Lok Sabha five times.

The meeting was also attended by other JD(U) rebels including former national vice-president Ramjivan Singh.

Ramjivan Singh said Fernandes would announce his candidacy after reaching Delhi on Friday.

On being asked by reporters whether he would contest the elections, Fernandes said "Han, Han" (Yes, Yes) before leaving Muzaffarpur en route to Delhi.

Bihar Chief Minister and JD-U leader Nitish Kumar insisted there was no "politics" behind Fernandes not being fielded and that the decision was taken after "due deliberations".

"Saying Fernandes was denied a ticket is not correct. The party requested him not to contest in Lok Sabha election owing to his health problems and offered him a Rajya Sabha nomination instead. The decision was taken after due deliberation," Kumar said in New Delhi.

लोकसभा चुनाव की तारीखों की घोषणा होने के दूसरे दिन ही प्रियंका गांधी वाड्रा ने अपने भाई राहुल गांधी के संसदीय क्षेत्र पहुंच गईं और उन्होंने गौरीगंज में आयोजित कांग्रेस सेवादल के कार्यक्रम के दौरान पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं को चुनाव जीतने के नुस्खे बताए। हालांकि उन्होंने साफ कहा कि वह चुनाव लड़ने की इच्छुक नहीं हैं। इस बीच कांग्रेस महासचिव राहुल गांधी भी अचानक पुणो पहुंच कर राकांपा अध्यक्ष शरद पवार से मुलाकात की।

आगामी लोकसभा चुनाव के लिए पार्टी कार्यकर्ताओं से तैयार हो जाने की अपील करते हुए प्रियंका ने उनसे कहा कि निस्वार्थ भावना से जनता से संपर्क रखने वाले लोगों को ही राजनीति में याद रखा जाता है। उनके इस कार्यक्रम से मीडिया को दूर रखा गया था। प्रियंका यहां तकरीबन 12 बजे पहुंची और शिविर में एक घंटे तक सेवादल के कार्यकर्ताओं से बातचीत की।

कार्यकर्ताओं से उन्होंने अमेठी तथा रायबरेली में फैल जाने को कहा और राहुल तथा उनकी मां सोनिया गांधी के विकास कायरें का जिक्र जनता के बीच करने को कहा। वहां मौजूद लोगों को भावनात्मक रूप से जोड़ने के प्रयास में उन्होंने कहा कि अमेठी और रायबरेली की जनता उनके परिवार के सदस्यों को काफी पसंद करती है। सेवादल शिविर में अमेठी संसदीय क्षेत्र के 16 ब्लॉक से चुने गए 1,250 कार्यकर्ताओं को 18 से 22 फरवरी तक संगठनात्मक दक्षता, चुनाव प्रबंधन और लोगों से जुड़ने तथा उनकी समस्याएं सुनने के लिए प्रशिक्षण दिया गया। सूत्रों ने बताया कि चुने गए सभी कार्यकर्ता 35 वर्ष से कम उम्र के थे। कार्यकर्ताओं के साथ बैठक के बाद प्रियंका मुंशीगंज गेस्ट हाउस गईं जहां वह अमेठी व रायबरेली क्षेत्रों के कार्यकर्ताओं से मुलाकात की।

उधर राहुल गांधी ने पूर्व निर्धारित कार्यक्रम के बगैर केंद्रीय मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया के साथ पुणो पहुंचकर राकांपा नेता शरद पवार से मुलाकात की। संभवत: उनकी यह मुलाकात सीटों के बंटवारे पर फैसला करने से संबंधित थी। सिंधिया के साथ राहुल सीधे पुणो से करीब 25 किमी दूर मंजरी पहुंचे और वसंतदादा चीनी संस्थान में पवार से मिले।

Congressmen in this Uttar Pradesh town on Tuesday raised a virtual chorus to request Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to join active politics. But the charismatic Gandhi scion said they would have to "wait for some more time".

Priyanka, who visited her Congress MP brother Rahul Gandhi's constituency here on Tuesday to meet party workers and locals, was urged by Congressmen to enter the poll fray.

"We all expressed our desire to see her in the fray this time; but she just smiled and told us that we would have to wait for some more time before she could take a plunge into the political arena," local Congress veteran M. Naqvi told IANS after the meeting.

During a short interaction with waiting mediapersons, she however made her stand on the issue more explicit.

"I am not going to contest the election. I am here to take care of things in my mother and brother's constituencies - Rae Bareli and Amethi - so that they can be free to campaign across the rest of the country," Priyanka said, before stepping into her vehicle to drive back to the Fursatganj airstrip from where she returned to New Delhi in the afternoon.

Earlier, on her arrival in the morning, she was welcomed by a host of local partymen. She first drove down to Gauriganj to attend the valedictory ceremony of a Congress Sewa Dal camp.

This was followed by a series of meetings with different levels of party workers drawn both from Amethi as well as Rae Bareli parliamentary constituencies at Munshiganj in Amethi.

The meetings were out of bounds for the media. Congress workers said the meetings were meant to pep up the party rank and file for the elections and give them broad guidelines for the campaigning.

Assuring the people that she would be visiting both Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies more frequently in the coming days, she asked them to immediately "get down to brass tacks".

Speaking to volunteers at the conclusion of the Sewa Dal camp, she said: "The training that you have received at the camp will be put to test next month." She went on to add: "It is going to be a test of victory and defeat; we known we are going to win. But remember the victory will not be ours; it will be a victory of your love and affection."

अफगानिस्तान में राष्ट्रपति चुनाव अगस्त तक स्थगित हुए - जनवरी 30, 2009

अफगानिस्तान के चुनाव आयोग ने राष्ट्रपति चुनाव 20 अगस्त को करवाने की घोषणा की है। देश के संविधान के तहत मतदान मई में होना था लेकिन सुरक्षा व्‍यवस्‍था की स्थिति अच्‍छी न होने के कारण चुनाव आगे बढ़ा दिया गया।

ये चुनाव अफगानिस्‍तान में दूसरे लोकतांत्रिक चुनाव होंगे। देश के दक्षिणी और पूर्वी भाग अभी भी सुरक्षित नहीं हैं और वहा निकट भविष्य में स्वतंत्र चुनाव करवाना संभव दिख रहा है।

उम्मीद जताई जा रही है कि अमेरिकी सैनिकों की संख्या बढ़ाकर वहां राष्ट्रपति चुनाव के अनुकूल माहौल बनाने की कोशिश की जाएगी। हालांकि राष्ट्रपति हामिद करजई ने फिर से चुनाव लड़ने के संकेत दिए हैं। पर जानकारों का कहना है कि उनकी लोकप्रियता में काफी कमी आई है।

English Translation:

Afghan presidential election due to be held in spring 2009 has been officially postponed till Aug. 20, Independent Election Commission said here on Thursday.

Azizullah Loden, the commission's chief, told reporters that although the election should be held in the spring in light of constitution, the delay decision is made primarily because of security concern.

However, he added that with regard of security, the postponement is allowed.

Earlier, the election commission has pointed out that the lack of money, cold weather and the harsh militancy in southern and eastern region made the presidential election impossible to be held on time.

Taliban militants fighting against the government have called on the Afghans to boycott the election and attacked those working on vote registration

मुशर्रफ़ का दल 'चुनावों में पिछड़ा'

पाकिस्तान में राष्ट्रपति मुशर्रफ़ को समर्थन देने वाली पाकिस्तान मुसलिम लीग (क़ायदे आजम) के प्रवक्ता ने स्वीकार किया है कि विपक्षी दलों ने चुनावों में बढ़त हासिल कर ली है।

पीएमएल-क्यू के प्रवक्ता तारीक़ अज़ीम ने कहा कि यदि शुरुआती नतीजों की पुष्टि होती है तो पार्टी विपक्ष की भूमिका निभाने को तैयार है।

समाचार एजेंसी एएफ़पी के साथ बातचीत में तारिक़ अज़ीम ने कहा कि शुरुआती नतीजों में नवाज़ शरीफ़ और बेनज़ीर भुट्टो को 'बड़ी सफलता' हासिल हुई है।

उनका कहना था,'' यदि नतीजों की पुष्टि होती है तो हम प्रभावी विपक्ष की भूमिका निभाएँगे।''

दूसरी ओर विपक्षी पार्टियों के समर्थकों ने अभी से जीत का जश्न मनाना शुरू कर दिया है।

हालांकि अभी नेशनल और प्रांतीय असेंबलियों के लिए हुए चुनाव में वोटों की गिनती जारी है। उम्मीद की जा रही है कि अगले कुछ घंटों में नतीजे आ जाएँगे।

बेनज़ीर भुट्टो के कुछ युवा समर्थक कराची की सड़कों में जश्न मनाने में जुट गए हैं।

उल्लेखनीय है कि पाकिस्तानी पीपुल्स पार्टी और पाकिस्तान मुस्लिम लीग (नवाज़) मु्ख्य राजनीतिक विपक्षी पार्टियाँ हैं।

शुरुआती रुझानों के अनुसार उनके उम्मीदवार आगे चल रहे हैं और परवेज़ मुशर्रफ़ के कई निकटतम सहयोगी अपनी सीटें हार गए हैं।

ख़बरों के अनुसार राष्ट्रपति मुशर्रफ़ के अधीन प्रधानमंत्री रहे पाकिस्तान मुस्लिम लीग (क़ायदे आजम) के चौधरी शुजात हुसैन नेशनल असेंबली का चुनाव हार गए हैं।

मुशर्रफ़ के विश्वस्त और पूर्व मंत्री शेख़ रशीद अहमद रावलपिंडी सीट से हार गए हैं।

चुनावी हिंसा

ग़ौरतलब है कि सोमवार को शाम बजे मतदान पूरा हुआ था और मतदान के दौरान देश भर के अलग-अलग हिस्सों से हिंसा की ख़बरें आई थीं। ग़ैर आधिकारिक सूत्रों के मुताबिक हिंसा में 10 से ज़्यादा लोग मारे गए थे।

मतदान संसद के निचले सदन यानी नेशनल असेंबली की 272 सीटों और प्रांतीय असेंबलियों की 577 सीटों के लिए हुआ है।

परवेज़ मुशर्रफ़ के प्रवक्ता के मुताबिक रावलपिंडी में मतदान के बाद राष्ट्रपति ने कहा कि जो भी चुनाव में जीतेगा उसके साथ मिलकर काम किया जाएगा।

मतदान के दौरान प्रांतीय असेंबली के लिए पाकिस्तान मुस्लिम लीग (नवाज़) के उम्मीदवार चौधरी आसिफ़ अशरफ़ की गाड़ी को निशाना बनाकर हमला किया गया जिसमें उनकी मौत हो गई। हमले में उनके ड्राइवर और निजी सचिव भी मारे गए।

एक अन्य घटना में लाहौर में ही पीएमएल (नवाज़) के चुनावी दफ़्तर पर अंधाधुंध फ़ायरिंग में एक व्यक्ति मारा गया।

कड़े इंतज़ाम

चुनाव के लिए सुरक्षा के कड़े इंतज़ाम किए गए थे। पूरे देश में लगभग 80 हज़ार सुरक्षाकर्मियों को तैनात किया गया था।


मतगणना
मतगणना का काम अभी जारी है

कुल 7, 335 उम्मीदवार चुनाव मैदान में हैं और करीब आठ करोड़ नौ लाख मतदाता वोट डालने के लिए पंजीकृत थे।

पाकिस्तान के चुनावी इतिहास में पहली बार मतपेटियों को पारदर्शी बनाया गया।

पिछले दिनों हुई हिंसा की घटनाओं के कारण इस ऐतिहासिक चुनाव में तनाव और डर का साया मंडराता रहा है।

मतदान के दौरान धाँधली की आशंकाएँ भी जताई जाती रही हैं।

ये चुनाव पहले आठ जनवरी को होने थे लेकिन 27 दिसंबर को एक रैली में पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री बेनज़ीर भुट्टो की हत्या के बाद चुनाव 18 फ़रवरी तक के लिए टाल दिए गए थे।

दुनिया भर की नज़रें इस समय पाकिस्तान पर टिकी हुई हैं। चुनावों का जायज़ा लेने के लिए दुनिया भर से क़रीब सौ पर्यवेक्षक और पत्रकार पाकिस्तान के विभिन्न हिस्सों में पहुँचे हुए हैं।
