अडिशनल डिस्ट्रिक्ट ऐंड सेशन जज जी. पी. श्रीवास्तव सीवान जेल में ही विवादित सांसद के खिलाफ कई मामलों की सुनवाई कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने शहाबुद्दीन को एक गैर लाइसंसी विदेशी पिस्टल, एके 47 के 200 कारतूस और पाकिस्तान की बनी हुई 56 राइफलें रखने का दोषी पाया। लेकिन जज ने दंगा फैलाने के मामले में सबूतों के अभाव में उन्हें बरी कर दिया। ये हथियार और कारतूस शहाबुद्दीन के प्रतापपुर गांव स्थित घर से 24 अप्रैल 2005 को बरामद किए गए थे। इसके बाद पुलिस ने सांसद के खिलाफ आर्म्स ऐक्ट के तहत केस दर्ज किया था। कोर्ट ने सांसद पर 15 हजार रुपये का जुर्माना भी किया है। जुर्माना न देने पर एक साल की सजा और बढ़ा दी जाएगी।
बाहुबली सांसद पर अपने 2 सहयोगियों के साथ मिलकर 21 जून 1996 को आंदर पुलिस स्टेशन के ऑफिसर इन्चार्ज संदेश बैठा पर हमला करने का आरोप था। आरोप के मुताबिक, तीनों आरोपियों ने ऑफिसर की पिटाई की और हत्या के एक अभियुक्त मुन्ना को छुड़ा लिया। कोर्ट को इस आरोप की पुष्टि के लिए कोई सबूत नहीं मिला।
पिछले साल मार्च से अब तक शहाबुद्दीन को 6 बार किसी मामले में दोषी पाया गया है। 3 मार्च 2007 को शहाबुद्दीन को 2 साल की कड़ी कैद मिली थी। इसके बाद 8 मई 2007 को उन्हें सीपीआई-एमएल कार्यकर्ता छोटेलाल गुप्ता के अपहरण और हत्या के मामले में उम्रकैद मिली। इसके बाद उन्हें सीवान के एसएसपी पर हमला करने के आरोप में 10 साल की सजा मिली। हाल ही में जज ने उन्हें 2 मामलों में 3 साल और एक साल की सजा दी है।

PATNA, Sept। 26: A local court in Bihar today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to the RJD MP, Mohammad Shahabuddin, in an Arms Act case. Sophisticated arms along with ammunition were found at his ancestral house at Pratappur in Siwan during a raid in 2005. Police had found stolen vehicles, AK-47 rifle, wireless sets, night visions, foreign-made cartridges, foreign currencies and country-made pistols after which six different cases were registered against the MP.
The court also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the MP who is currently in jail since last three years. His lawyer Mr Abhay Kumar Rajan said they would move an higher court shortly. Md Shahabuddin is reported to have over 40 cases pending in the court. The court had sentenced him to life imprisonment last year for kidnapping and killing a rival CPI-ML leader Chhote Lal Gupta. Last month, police lodged a fresh case against him after they found 37 cell phones from his possession, 10 SIM cards, 19 mobile chargers, seven mobile batteries, 15 telephone diaries, 11 knives, one headphone, one ceiling fan and seven bottles of imported perfumes during a raid in Siwan Jail where he is currently lodged. Md Shahabuddin is considered to be a close confidante of party chief Mr Lalu Prasad and represents Siwan in Lok Sabha. n SNS
