दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट ने कथित रूप से भड़काऊ और सांप्रदायिक भाषण देने के आरोप में भाजपा उम्मीदवार वरुण गांधी की गिरफ्तारी पर रोक लगा दी है। इससे पहले, भारतीय जनता पार्टी के पीलीभीत लोकसभा क्षेत्र से उम्मीदवार वरुण गांधी ने चुनाव आचार संहिता के उल्लंघन को लेकर शुक्रवार को अपना जवाब चुनाव आयोग को सौंप दिया। गांधी ने अपने अधिवक्ता के माध्यम से यह जवाब सुबह ग्यारह बजे से पहले चुनाव आयोग को सौंपा। अधिवक्ता ने जवाब का ब्यौरा देने से इनकार किया। गांधी पर अपने निर्वाचन क्षेत्र में समुदाय विशेष के खिलाफ भड़काऊ भाषण देने का आरोप थ़ा। इसी संबध में चुनाव आयोग ने भाजपा प्रत्याशी से जवाब तलब किया था।
इससे पहले पीलीभीत के डीएम ने शुक्रवार सुबह ही वरुण गांधी को उनके भड़काऊ भाषण की सीडी सौंपी है। वरुण ने दलील दी थी कि जिस सीडी के चलते उन्हें नोटिस भेजा गया है, उन्हें इसकी कॉपी सौंपी जाए। वैसे शुक्रवार को इस मामले में चुनाव आयोग के नोटिस पर वरुण गांधी को जवाब देना है। इसके साथ ही वरुण ने अग्रिम जमानत के लिए दिल्ली हाईकोर्ट में याचिका दायर की है, जिस पर शुक्रवार को सुनवाई होनी है।
याचिका में इलाहाबाद में उनके खिलाफ एफआईआर के आधार पर गिरफ्तारी पर रोक लगाने की अपील की है। मुश्किलें इतनी ही नहीं हैं, वरुण के खिलाफ नोट बांटने का भी एक मामला चुनाव आयोग की नजर में हैं। पहली बार चुनावी मैदान में किस्मत आजमाने उतरे वरुण आरोपों के भंवर में फंस गए हैं।

Uttar Pradesh officials today visited the residence of Varun Gandhi and handed over a copy of the CD containing his hate speech, three days after the Election Commission issued a notice to BJP and its candidate from Pilibhit for alleged violation of model code of conduct.
A two-member team headed by A K Mishra, a tehsildar rank officer of the UP Government, handed over the CD at the residence of Varun's mother and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi here, where the BJP candidate stays.
The officials were accompanied by a team from Delhi Police, which did not enter the residential premises. The team was at Gandhi';s residence for about half-an-hour.
"We have come here in connection with the CD case. We have handed over a copy of the CD," Mishra said.
Varun's office, when contacted, said the officials had come to hand over a CD to the BJP candidate, but refused to give any further details. 29-year-old Varun had yesterday moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory bail. Sources in the UP police said the onus of challenging the contents of the CD lay on Varun.
The EC had on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer to file a case under Indian Penal Code and Representation of the People Act against Varun in connection with his speeches in Pilibhit, which had communal overtones.
